Casa Pau, La Galera(Sleeps 2 - 6)
Situated just 10 minutes walk to the village of La Galera, Casa Pau is part of the main house set in an acre of land that is occupied by the owners. They have created a comfortable, self-contained two storey apartment which has an open plan living area with a breakfast bar, kitchen, two en-suite bedrooms (one double, one twin) and one small bedroom.
We grow many of our own vegetables, melons and grapes which guests are welcome to use.
The house has its own WiFi zone and there is Sky TV as well as Spanish terrrestrial channels.
The area is rich in the cultivation of olives, almonds, peaches, mandarins and oranges and is a delight to walk or cycle around using the signposted routes or just make your own way. There are many different varieties of birds in the area. There is a good selection of shops and service in the village, which has a Roman bridge and a 14th century castle/church. The municipal pool opens in July and August.
La Galera is situated about 15 minutes from Tortosa and Amposta, on the Galera plain with views to the Tortosa/Beceite range of mountains within the Els Ports natural park area as well as the Senia mountain range and the Montsia hills. It is within easy reach of the Ebro Delta and beaches at Ampolla and Sant Carles de la Rapita. The Els Ports mountains are a natural reserve with the highest point in Catalunya at Mont Caro, where Iberian mountain goats are plentiful.
The Ebro Delta is a wildlife reserve with a wide variety of birds, water fowl and flamingoes. The area is also renowned for its extensive paddy fields producing many varieties of top quality rice, the production of high quality sea salt, mussel beds, sand dunes and wide, open beaches. The Ebro river that flows through Tortosa and Amposta, apart from being the longest river in Spain (that actually flows all the time) is famous for the enormous catfish that can be caught here.
