Caseta Libelula 2 bedroom cottage near Tivenys and River Ebro

Located in the foothills of the Sierra Cardo mountain range, overlooking ther river plain below and with views across to the Els Ports natural park, this beautifully refurbished cottage was once an olive farmer's winter lodging, providing room for the donkey below and the family on the mezzanine floor.

Named Caseta Libelula (Dragonfly House) thanks to the profusion of dragonflies here in late summer, the house is set in 3 acres of cultivated, terraced olive grove. There are carobs and fig growing here too. About 2 km away is the start of a track where you can climb up into the scrubby maquis for a wild nature walk and set off in search of the Cova Negra or Black Cave. There are lots of crumbling farms with old water cisternas or cucus as they are known locally to explore.

The terrain here is very rocky, with lots of wild grasses and hundreds of wild alpine daffodils, cerise pink gladioli and asphodelus in the spring. Also in spring, the red soil fuels the profusion of almond blossom on the trees below this land.

The cottage has 2 double bedrooms, both with balcony, a bathroom with shower, living room, fully equipped kitchen/diner and a large shaded terrace with inbuilt seating for the perfect sundowner. There are 2 double beds and there is an option to put up another double bed in the living room. There is also a child's nursery with travel cot adjoining the front bedroom. There is a DVD player and lots of books.

The owners can offer their single estate extra virgin olive oil and table olives from the land to any guests and will make up hampers of local produce, home made marmalade and traditional Catalan alioli on request.

The property is completely self sufficient with regard to water and solar electricity. As an additional extra, internet access is available via mobile usb modem costing 10 euros per week.

The cottage is situated just a 10 minute drive from the River Ebro and from the village of Tivenys. Tivenys has 3 bars plus 2 that open during the summer months, 2 small convenience stores, 2 bakeries, a good butcher and a fantastic vegetable store with fresh local produce. There is also a good Brasserie that serves good, locally sourced food with flair. A Park is situated just by the river, with a newly built swimmin pool, cool seating areas and play areas for young children. The Feria has just opened an information centre for visitors and locals alike who are interested in the town's local history.

The city of Tortosa is a short drive from Tivenys.

Price is per week, which covers all towels/linens and cleaning costs. The cottage is fully equipped with all the utensils needed for a comfortable stay.
